Club Med Ixtapa Pacific Review TRAVEL GUIDE

Sharing is caring!

We had the privilege of visiting this child-friendly, all-inclusive resort to bring you all the information on what it has to offer families. If you’d like to see it in action, watch our video review below. If you prefer to read and look at beautiful photos, our full written review follows the video.

WHERE IS CLUB MED IXTAPA PACIFIC?

Club Med Ixtapa Pacific is located along the Pacific Coast of Mexico, situated between the beautiful Sierra Madre Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, approximately 160 miles north of Acapulco.

RESORT GROUNDS:

The Club Med Ixtapa grounds are gorgeous. With well-groomed plants, trees, grass and sand, this is truly a vacation paradise.

This is one of those places that it is easy to take postcard-worthy photographs to document your trip.

STAFF:

The staff at Club Med is there to serve you and give you the relaxing vacation you deserve. Every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful in every way possible.

ROOMS:

We stayed in a standard family room that was easily big enough for a family of 6. In this type of accommodation there are two rooms: one for the parents and one for the kids, divided by a door that is great for nap time or when the kids go to bed early.

The main room features a large king-size bed, desk, and flat-panel TV. A jack and jill bathroom is situated between both rooms that can be accessed by either room. The “kids room” has two twin beds and a trundle that pulls out for a third child and a flat panel TV.

If you are traveling with a baby, we love that Club Med greets you in your room with a well thought out “baby package”. This included package is a playard (with Coverplay to insure it’s clean), a lightweight Evenflo stroller, bottle warmer, and a baby bathtub for your use while at the resort. The fact that they included use of all these baby gear items shows us they are serious about welcoming the smallest visitors with open arms.

RESTAURANTS:

Since this is an all-inclusive resort, all your food and drink is included in your price. You can eat and drink as much as you like.

El Encanto

El Encanto is the main restaurant on property that serves a buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We found the food selection to be plentiful with items that even kids would enjoy such pancakes, omelets, and cereal for breakfast and hamburgers, hotdogs, french fries, pasta, and ice cream for lunch and dinner. Keeping with the theme that they love families, El Encanto also has a baby corner that includes baby food, milk, juices, and fresh purées daily. That is a unique feature you won’t find at every resort.

The adults need not to worry because there is plenty of choices for a more grown-up palate such as seafood, pasta, made-to-order omelets, and meat selections. Overall, there are plenty of delicious choices at El Encanto!

La Luna Azul:

La Luna Azul is one of their sit-down, order from a menu, need a reservation restaurants. During our visit, it was open every other night alternating with the Miramar Restaurant. It has a romantic setting, and is situated in the middle of a garden, along the ocean. The service is amazing and the menu covers all the major entree selections from seafood to meat.

Miramar:

Miramar is a quaint, open-air restaurant located next to the pool with views of the beautiful beach. It is open for late breakfast, a light grill menu in the afternoon, and every night for late snack from 11pm-1am. Miramar is also open as an Argentinean steakhouse every other night (alternating with La Luna Azul). You need reservations for the dinner service, and make sure you make them early, because this one is definitely worth it. I had one of the best (and different) shrimp cocktails I’ve ever had at this restaurant.

POOLS:

Club Med Ixtapa features three pools on property.

The main pool with the shallow pool that is great for the kids adjacent to it…

Club Med Pool

and the Club Mini pool…

Club Med Pool

There were plenty of chairs poolside for everyone and quite a few poolside beds. I loved that on each pool bed there was a sign stating that if the bed was unoccupied for 30 minutes or more, they have forfeited the bed and will allow another guest to take it. This is helpful for trying to prevent other guests from just throwing down a towel to “save” the bed for the day. I’m not saying you don’t have to call them out on this policy though to remove a pair of Croc sandals that were thrown on a bed for hours without anyone around. 🙂

If you have your heart set on a poolside bed because they are great for families, we suggest that you get to the pool early. (Or just wait and watch like a hawk for someone else to abandon their bed!)

CHILDREN’S PROGRAM:

This award-winning children’s program is fantastic. While other resorts (and travel destinations such as cruises) turn away babies and toddlers until they are 3+, Club Med Ixtapa welcomes them with open, loving arms from 4 months up to 17 years old.

The CPR-certified, qualified staff keeps the little ones busy with indoor and outdoor activities catered to their specific age range while the parents enjoy themselves with adult activities.

The children’s programs break up into:

1) Baby Club Med for 4 months – 2yrs

2) Petite Club Med for 2-4 yrs

3) Mini Club Med for 4-12

4) Teen Club Med for 12-17.

The Baby Club Med building has cribs, high chairs, toys, and a changing room. We love the “Baby Bottle Room” that is part of this building that features jarred baby food, cereal, milk, juices, bottle warmers, and a sink to wash your baby bottles.

It is important to note that while the children’s program is included in your all-inclusive price, the Baby Club Med is not. There is a $60/day charge for babies and it is an all or nothing charge for your visit. If you want to take advantage of the baby service, you have to pay for all of your days at the resort. You can’t just pick and choose which days.

Some of the activities for the older kids include swimming, archery, games, talent shows, sailing, circus school (great fun!), and cooking classes.  While the children’s programs are open 9-5:30pm daily, the resort also offers after-hour babysitting and the Pyjama Club at night for an additional cost.

BEACH:

This is a beachfront resort, so of course you want to know about the beach, right?!? The beach did not disappoint. Filled with resort chairs, beach beds, and activities such as beach volleyball, the beach area is a great place to hang out during the day. Plus, there is always a “Beach Boy” (this is printed on their shirts!) standing by to take your drink order to bring you an icy margarita or cold beer. The water was beautiful and the sand was kept clean and perfect for building sand castles.

ACTIVITIES:

The unique activities is another way that this Club Med resort stands apart from the rest. Plus, there are so many included activities at Club Med that there is always something fun to do.  With flying trapeze and circus school to archery to sailing to tennis plus much, much more, our only dilemma was what to do first.

Flying Trapeze and Circus School

When was the last time a resort offered to let you swing on a real trapeze or walk a tight rope? For me, never. This is a can’t-miss activity!

Club Med Circus

Archery

Want to tap into your inner Katniss (Hunger Games for those who aren’t getting my reference!)? You have to try out the archery range.

Club Med

Sailing

My absolute favorite activity of the entire visit was the sailing. Yes, it’s INCLUDED! They have two lessons daily to show you how to sail the boat, and then you are off on the ocean on your own personal sailboat! Seriously, so fun! We did this activity twice a day every day of our visit!! Plus, the great sailing staff (we love you Kellie!) is amazing! They are fun and informative!!

Club Med

Tennis

Eight tennis courts with rackets and balls to use are on property to summons your inner Andre Agassi.

Club Med Tennis

Wall Climbing

Kids (and adults!) will love that there is a four-sided climbing wall. This is a great late afternoon activity for the entire family.

Rock Climbing Club Med

Soccer

Highlighting Mexico’s most popular sport, there is a large soccer field in the center of the resort for open play, as well as, soccer tournaments.

Club Med Soccer

Other resort activities include: basketball, beach volleyball, table tennis, Zumbatomic for kids, volleyball, water polo, kayaks, dance classes and fitness classes.

Club Med Activity

There is also a calming spa that offers facials, massages, body scrubs, manicures and pedicures and a full exercise gym with all the equipment from treadmills to free weights on property.

We visited Mexico in late July, and let me tell you it was H-O-T! Shocker, right! Just make sure you plan your activities according to how well you handle the heat. Lots of hydration and take breaks! This isn’t a place to try to prove just how long you can play on the tennis courts at high noon!

Overall, we had a fantastic time at Club Med Ixtapa Pacific and we highly recommend it for families. No wonder Trip Advisor named it the #1 resort in Mexico and #12 resort in the world for families! As always, all this luxury and all-inclusive environment isn’t cheap. The rates always vary depending on the time of the year, but for example, a family of four for a week stay in September (without airfare) would cost $3,058 off their website (this is with a promotion that they are having now!).

Club Med Beach

If you are looking for a luxury, all-inclusive resort that really caters to families, we highly recommend checking out the Club Med Ixtapa Pacific. You can check our their rates and find out information on their other properties at their website http://www.clubmed.com or keep up-to-date on all their happenings on their Club Med Facebook or Club Med Twitter Pages.

I booked already and didn't pay for the kids club. My child is 3 1/2. Can I pay when I get there and for that age can it be a day by day choice or do you have to pay for whole time you are there?

Thanks in advance C
