It’s always a challenge to decide what you are going to bring as a gift to a baby shower. Should you just grab something off the registry or think outside the box? I guess it depends on your relationship with the new mom-to-be. If you are good friends, you might want to do something different that looks like you put a little time and effort into it.
Enter the Hospital Survival Kit.
I just saw this at my sister-in-law’s baby shower this weekend and I thought it was a great idea. It’s pretty easy to put together but something that the new mom will definitely appreciate while she is sitting in the hospital.
All you have to do is start with a shoebox size container. Now fill it with many of the little things that the new mom will need in the hospital. Here is what my sister-in-law’s box contained:
- Three pairs of socks
- Burt’s Bees Facial Cloths
- A Vitamin Water or beverage
- Ponytails
- Listerine mouthwash
- Lip balm
- Hand Sanitizer
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Nail polish
- Big candy bar
What a great idea, right?!?

Such a lovely gifts. I have a month ago from Ginger Kids during the birthday of my niece. I bought some bibs, baby thermometer and baby backseat mirror. Check it out!

I love the idea about Lanolin, some other thoughtful items are any snacks that are easy to eat with one hand (nuts, granola bars, fruit strips, etc.), reusable plastic cup with straw (some really cute ones out there!), a pretty notebook and pen to keep track of feedings and diaper changes, onesie stickers of "newborn" through "twelve month" for photos of the baby...food and breast feeding supplies are #1 in my book!!!

As a Mother-Nurse , I found this to be a very thoughtful gift . Those socks ? Definately ! Nail polish ? Not sure about that as the " average" number of interruptions in a postpartum mom 's room in 24 hours is FORTYNINE ! Not much rest or down time to be had there. Also, if you plan to breastfeed , as I hope you do, please do not bring the Hooter- hider and use it to completely hide breasts and baby when the endless stream of guests are present . Have the nurse show the guests to the waiting area and remember that mom and baby are the focus here and you both need time and privacy to get to know one another and learn this breastfeeding thing. How about throwing in a decorative box of tissues and maybe some lanolin cream for mom ? Sorry for the rant thrown in !!!! I just hate how hectic it is for these new parents at such a crucial time.

My friend made me one of these to take to the hospitol when I had my knee surgery, I loved it! It was so thoughtful and it really made me feel special! My hand sanitizer was from Bath & Body Works and the nurses kept coming in just just to smell it because it smelled so yummy! So I'm def making one for my daughter in law when she goes in to have the baby!
