How to Clean Reusable Straws

Sharing is caring!

We are back to How-To Monday this week with a handy trick on how to keep all those reusable straws clean.

My husband and I drink green smoothies every morning and we each have our favorite cup complete with a colorful, reusable straw. There is nothing grosser than a dirty straw in the morning, right? I mean, the smoothie is green so if the straw is still dirty from the day before, how can I know if it is just dried smoothie or mold growing?! Yuck!

Good news, I have figured out the easiest and quickest way to clean out reusable straws so that they are sparkling clean every time you reach for one. Take a peek at today’s Baby Gizmo video and find out how….

I've been using the Brushtec Sports Bottle Straw Washing Brush that I originally bought from Bed, Bath and Beyond. The brush is wayyyy longer than that little Dr. Brown's thing so it works on all our straws from the short take n' toss ones to the 11 inch Tervis straws. The same brush is also available from Amazon for less than $10.

Hi Hollie, thanks for the tip. I've found that you can also loosen or remove straw gunk by boiling them (if your straw can handle the temperature).

I did not know about the Dr. Brown's brushes and use reusable straws a lot, too... we got a brush with them (and usually rinse them immediately) but glad to know where/how to replace it when we need, too. Thanks.

I prefer the Munchkin straw brushes for my reusable straws! The four pack sold at Target has two different sizes... a smaller diameter brush that's about the same size as the Dr Browns and a larger diameter that's great for those reusable straws!
