What To Do WITH The Kids On New Year’s Eve

Sharing is caring!

I remember before I had my son I would hunt down the perfect New Year’s Eve dress and make plans for hottest night out on town ever. Boy, have times changed. Now you’ll probably find me in sweat pants, passed out long before the ball drops at midnight. If you’ve got kids and aren’t able to have a hot date night out with your spouse this year, worry not, because today I’ve rounded up some great ideas of things you could do on  New Year’s Eve WITH your kids!

-Movie night. Watch all your favorite movies before the ball drops! Even better, make it a HOME video night and take a trip down memory lane.

-Party! Yup, you heard me! Party! With the kids! Streamers, blow horns, bang pots and pans, eat junk food, have a dance party in your pajamas, wear party hats, the works! Kids will love it!

-Local events. Does your city do fireworks on New Years Eve? Any fun activities planned around town? Check your local paper or go online to see what’s going on in town!

-Game night. Bust out all the board games and play your favorites!

-Something fun every hour. Each time it’s an hour later, let your kids have a little prize or play a fun activity. Prizes could include things like top hats, streamers, or a special treat.

-Special dinner. Serve a fancy dinner for New Year’s Eve like fondues!

-Family slumber party. Bring out the sleeping bags  and let your kids stay up way past their bedtime!

-Make a good luck cake. It’s a Greek tradition to serve a New Year’s Eve cake at midnight. It’s baked with a special coin inside. Whoever receives the slice that has the coin inside will have good fortune throughout the year!

-Midnight in another country. If your kids are small and can’t stay up until midnight, celebrate midnight in another county while it’s still early. Toast with sparkling apple juice in fancy glasses!

-Make some toasts. If your kids are older, prepare your “toasts” beforehand about what 2014 meant to each of you, and have everyone talk about what they’re excited about in 2015!

Whatever you and the kids do this New Years, we here at Baby Gizmo hope it’s a fun one!
