Baby Gizmo Father’s Day Essay Contest Winner!
June 16, 2008
Congratulations to Erin Monroe, mother of four from Florida, for winning our Baby Gizmo Father’s Day Essay Contest! Since Erin just had a baby two weeks ago and has a 15 month old, she chose the Svan High Chair with chocolate cushion because they would soon be short one high chair.

Here is her winning essay:
My first Mother’s Day was marred by pain and loss. I was a mother with no one to mother. Only days before I had been laid out in a surgical suite while my doctor scooped away what remained of my hopes. My baby had been obliterated in slow motion while I watched on an ultrasound screen, 3 times in 3 days. My husband, knee deep in his own pain over the situation, knew it wasn’t fair. That Sunday he tentatively approached the bedside, and offered me an envelope. It was a card from our baby. I bawled my eyes out there on that bed, hugging this man who knew what I needed.
The year that stretched between my first and second Mother’s Day brought more heartache, another loss, twins this time. That year also brought great joy. Mira, against all odds, was born. A few weeks later when Mother’s Day was once again upon us, my husband handed me three cards. In the first was a Thank You card from him. The second was a Mother’s Day card from Mira, which I lingered over, relishing it. The third was from our babies, he hadn’t forgotten or glossed over our losses. He knew that despite my happiness over Mira that there was still a hole in my heart. He was the only one who understood, who never uttered “get over it”.
Though it has been 6 years and 4 children since our losses occurred, my husband, my wonderful, great, awesome, caring husband has never forgotten to honor those children and to love the four we have on earth even harder. In that spirit, I strive to make his Father’s Day the best it can be.
