OVERVIEW Booster high chairs -- also called "booster seats," "table chairs" and "feeding seats/chairs" - come in many varieties and have just as many uses and age ranges. The two most common kinds include: portable high chairs that allow your baby to dine on the go and booster seats that give your toddler a big kids' view of the dining table. Some boosters look like miniature highchairs and are made for babies; others are for toddlers only. Thankfully, many can convert from baby to toddler. All are small compared to a full-blown highchair, but some are more compact and portable than others.
Each type of booster chair serves a different purpose. Compact high chairs are meant to replace a full-size high chair and save space in your kitchen. Smaller, portable high chairs are designed to travel with baby and are great for dining out or going to Grandma's house. And toddler boosters are designed to give big kids a boost. Best of all, most booster chairs give moms a clean and sanitary alternative to restaurant boosters and high chairs.
Many boosters fold compactly for easy portability. Some boosters strap to a chair, others are free from straps. Booster features include trays, tray covers, the ability to adjust booster height for different table heights, carrying straps and even tray toys and accessories.

A Note on the Bumbo:
Though incorrectly billed many places as a "booster seat" or "booster high chair," the Bumbo is neither.
The Bumbo is a "baby seat/sitter." It has no straps, so it should not leave the floor, and it's not meant for children over 12 months (although it's not well suited for mobile babies of any age). And though it might appear so in pictures, a toddler booster it is not. See our full review.
