OVERVIEW
The only thing better than new shoes for us is tiny, leather, embroidered new shoes for our babies. Hands down our favorite category, baby shoes are pure heaven!

Since baby feet are filled with tiny bones that aren't fully fused together yet and are constantly growing, shoes that are too tight or too stiff can constrict growth, movement and even circulation. Pediatricians actually recommend babies be shoe-less as long and as often as possible. It's a fairly easy rule to following inside, but out of the house, safety and climate rule out socks-only in many cases. The closest thing to barefoot is a soft soled shoe.

The most important feature in any shoe is flexibility. Good shoes should be flexible enough that you can easily bend them in half with one hand. Shoes with solid soles, like certain thick-soled tennis shoes or dress shoes are not recommended.

Shoes should also have a low profile, meaning they don't rise above the ankle, otherwise they restrict natural movement. So, cute as they are, mini high tops and hiking boots are out. Soft booties that rise above the ankle are just fine though because they don't have a constrictive form.

Shoes with non-slip soles are essential for vertical babies. Even those cruising the furniture or standing for one nanosecond need a sticky bottom.

Also look for a shoe with a leather interior. A leather insole will wick the moisture away from baby's feet; synthetic soles will cook up smelly baby sweat stew. And high quality shoes have treated leather insoles that prevent bacteria growth.

Allergy Alert: some people are allergic to the chemicals used in the leather tanning process. If your baby gets a red rash on the top of their feet after wearing leather shoes, chances are they are allergic, and you'll need to find synthetic shoes.
