Weighing 15 pounds and under, they are not only a necessity, but also a lifesaver for short trips with tired toddlers. Their ability to fold compactly makes them a great, trunk-saving choice, and their small size makes maneuvering in tight spaces a breeze. Not meant as a replacement for a full-size, standard stroller, most lightweight strollers are too light to accommodate infant car seat carriers; even a shopping bag hung from the back handles can tip them over. Unless they have a reclining seat, they are not to be used with infants under six months old. Technically a stroller is labeled "umbrella" if it has two, u-shaped handles and folds in on itself like an umbrella. A "lightweight" stroller folds flat. Three- and five-point harness straps are available, but five-point are preferable, especially for young children. Since this is the only category of stroller (and perhaps baby gear!) where there are $9 models available, it might seem like a great place to give your wallet a break. However, we recommend investing in a good, feature-packed lightweight stroller because you'll use it longer and more often than any other stroller (you'll be sick of your full-size one by age one, we promise!). The extra durability, nicer fabric and ease of steering are well worth the extra money. Don't believe us? Try pushing a cheap one through Disneyland all day. Your wrists, back and shoulders will not thank you.
