Home > Baby Gear > Strollers > Double Strollers > Umbrella Double Strollers   OVERVIEW Double umbrella or lightweight strollers are the lightest double strollers available, but they are still twice as heavy as a single umbrella stroller, weighing roughly the same as a single standard stroller, anywhere from 18 to 28 pounds. While they are the ultimate in convenience (especially important for the mom of multiple children who doesn't need to be weighed down by anything else), the double lightweight stroller you choose should be sturdy enough to carry two children. Due to their light construction, double lightweight strollers only offer side-by-side seating and are not able to safely hold infant car seats. If the seats do not recline, the stroller should not be used by infants under six months old. The side-by-side seating arrangement makes for equal viewing - great for twins - but does make the stroller quite wide, a nuisance in narrow store aisles. Technically a stroller is labeled "umbrella" if it has two, u-shaped handles and folds in on itself like an umbrella. A "lightweight" stroller folds flat. Three- and five-point harness straps are available, but five-point are preferable, especially for young children. Many double lightweight strollers do have convenient features like large baskets, parent cup holders, plush padding, sun canopies and reclining seats. More money will buy you a sturdier stroller, better maneuverability and more options.
