However, it does have some drawbacks as well. The tub is designed for the baby to lay down on a curved backrest covered in a thin foam mat and have their feet up in the area where the water spills over from the reservoir. The water runs from the tap over a thermometer sensor, into a mixing reservoir and then drains down into the main tub with the baby. Drains located on the side of tub help parents control the water level and keep smaller bathers in a safer water level, while theoretically allowing the dirty water to drain out of the tub as new, fresh water enters. The tub's makers have tried to design a tub with features that parents have asked for. Their biggest selling point is the digital thermometer. Water runs from the tap directly onto a sensor that relays the temperature along with a color-coded background. The color ranges from blue for too cold, green for just right and red for too hot. Also, as the temperature increases in the red range it will be accompanied by audible beeps as a warning of water that is too hot. The thermometer does have a bit of a lag time before it reads the correct temperature so it is important for parents to monitor the water temperature as well. However, the makers of the tub have attempted to improve the safety of this by adding a water mixing reservoir below the temperature sensor to account for these changes. The tub is designed to be used either over a sink or in a bathtub. It did work well for us in both, however, those with older tubs or unusual tub spigots might find it difficult to get the water aimed at the sensor. Also, the design appears to be awkward for some single sinks. We liked that you could use the reservoir water with a cup to rinse the baby. So, what are the drawbacks to this tub? This tub is intended for use with constantly running water. Although this is not a water sparing device for those so inclined, it does require only a small stream of water to properly fill the reservoir. The moving water is meant to provide constantly draining and therefore cleaner water. However, in reality, although the water did get somewhat cleaner as the bath went on, we still had to drain the tub and rinse the soap suds from the baby at the end of his bath. Also, this is fairly large and bulky tub to try to store. However, with as large as it is there is not a lot of room for the baby due to the one end being taken up by the temperature sensor/reservoir etc. Most newborns and smaller babies will be well supported, however, my five-month-old child was very chilly and could not get deep enough into the tub. Also, a minor design flaw in the way that the babies lay in the tub provide a means for boy babies to 'sprinkle' perfectly into the clean water reservoir! Overall, this is a tub with some nice features (namely the temperature control and the cleaner water), but with price and limited age use, you may be better off with a more versatile tub.
