| Full Review: A bouncy seat is very important for the first 5-6 months of a baby's life. It's a great place to set the baby down during the day where the baby can either nap or to just give mom's arms a break. Because the bouncy seat is used with a newborn mostly, comfort is the #1 feature a mom should look for. Lots of toys and things to grab are not as important, as your baby can't really 'play' at this age. Once they sit up (around 6 months), a baby becomes disinterested in almost any bouncy seat no matter how much it has going on. So, focus on comfort and not the toys. Yes, they can look at a mobile but other than that you want the most comfortable, safest bouncy seat for your baby. That is where the Fisher Price Baby Papasan comes in.
The Papasan is not only pleasant to look at but is great for the baby. The Papasan is one of those products that I wish they made in an adult size. The Papasan looks like the most comfortable, cozy place for babies. It's very soft and very comfy for little ones, and the blanket that comes with it is great and machine-washable. The blanket is attached with Velcro so that it stays in place and moms don't worry about it getting over the baby's face. Unlike many bouncy seats on the market, the Papasan 'cradles' your baby with a wider seat and very soft fabric. There's an adjustable infant head support and removable infant body pillow to keep your newborn extra comfortable.
The incline on the Papasan is ideal for babies with reflux or even a baby with a cold. Babies with reflux sleep better at an angle so this chair is a great alternative for a sleepy newborn. Also, when a baby gets that inevitable cold, having them sleep at an incline like in the papasan helps the baby get the necessary sleep to keep mom and baby rested. Moms will feel secure having their babies sleep in such comfort without the fear that they baby will roll out because of the 'cradle effect' that it creates.
New to the 2006 Baby Papasan is the removable toy mobile with a built-in mirror dome and removable hanging bunny. The mobile arm rotates away, towards the back for easy loading and unloading of the baby. The mirror and the hanging bunny are a sufficient amount of toys for a bouncy seat.
The Papasan has a nice subtle vibration to comfort the baby and plays 8 soothing songs.
Since it's round and a little deeper, moms feel a lot more secure having their babies sit and sleep in it. It also has these wonderful carrying handles so you can safely take baby from room to room while they nap if needed. It also folds down and is easy to travel with. This is definitely worth the $50, a higher price than most bouncy seats, because of the comfort factor and the cradling effect!
