My child really enjoys this toy and found it instantly soothing right from the start. The on/off switch on the front is relatively easy for babies to reach up and kick or to push once they are able to sit. There are a variety of different settings designed for either maximum time or battery conservation (unfortunately, one cannot have both!) You can choose a peaceful blend of rainforest noises with water falling and crickets chirping or you can add in lullabies or classical music to the mix. You can also choose between six, twelve, and eighteen minutes of music based on whether you add in lights, motion and/or music. I was a little disappointed that you could not choose the longest setting and have all three but I am sure Fisher Price does not want people going through too many sets of batteries using this product. My son is utterly fascinated by the moving monkey, frog and waterfall and slowly rotating lights. However, I will often set it for one of the longer settings with no movement if I think he might need some extra time to fall asleep or if it is daytime and he can’t see the lights as well anyway. Both my husband and I find the music to be soothing and not at all grating (unlike the monkeys hooting on the Rainforest high chair) and will often play it as a backdrop during story time to help ready my son for bedtime. As soon as I place him in his crib, he immediately turns toward his soother and settles in to watch the show. Another gripe I have for this product is that it does not attach to all types of cribs. I have had a tough time finding crib toys for my curved sleigh style crib and this is no exception. A standard straight sided crib with normal rails would be ideal for this product, although with some creativity it can still be safely attached to some other types of cribs. Also, unlike a mobile, it can be used in the crib even after a child can sit, as long as it is fastened high enough up from the mattress. Although I think that Fisher Price could add a few improvements such as an alternate attachment method and a remote control (which if they provided would negate the need to add more control over the time settings!), overall my son falls asleep so easily to this that I wouldn’t want to live without it.
