The new Zen Collection High Chair combines all the conveniences that you look for in a high chair in an upscale look with rich textures, earthy colors and beautiful wood accents. First thing we noticed is that the neutral colors will blend in well in kitchens so that you don’t have to hide your high chair when company comes over. The chair has a beautiful light green seat, a chocolate brown infant pillow a beige and green infant insert, and wood accents. The combination of the green and the browns is very appealing. The Zen Chair has all the features we come to expect from Fisher Price including a reclining seat, adjustable height positions, dishwasher safe tray cover and a five point harness. Right out of the box, the chair takes little time to assemble. We had it up and in our kitchen within 10 minutes. We were surprised at the little amount of wood that was actually present on the high chair. Even though the only wood is the footrest plate and the two support braces on the bottom of the high chair, while the legs are brown metal and the top of the footrest is plastic, the chair still looks great. It has a 3 position seat recline that is great for bottle feeding or when our kids have literally fallen asleep on their grilled cheese. The Zen Chair also has an adjustable height option that is useful for coordinating it with the height of your kitchen table. One of our complaints though is that you need two people to adjust the height. One person pulls both levers on the sides of the chair, while the other pulls up or pushes down on the seat. Fisher Price really needs to make this a one-person deal! For as much as we tried on our own to see if we could get around the fact that the manual says you need 2 people, we couldn’t get the seat height adjusted by ourselves. There is an adjustable 5-point harness for safety and a permanent crotch bar that is helpful for keeping baby in place. Cleanup is a breeze with a padded leatherette chair cover that is easy to wipe clean, that thankfully has no ruffle around it to get dirty. There is also a machine washable suede newborn insert and pillow for younger babies. The tray can be removed one-handed easily but we found that it can be tricky to put back on again so you may need two hands. The tray is definitely not as easy to work as the Fisher Price Healthy Care High Chair line. The tray has a great dishwasher-safe tray insert that fits in our standard size dishwasher. We love that the tray has multiple positions to fit smaller and larger babies. The tray comes up nice and close to the child to avoid the gap that food usually drops in on other high chairs. While we heard some moms complain that the seat was small, we had no problem fitting our 27 lb, 19 month old tester in it comfortably. Now, we don’t think a child anywhere near the 50 lb weight capacity is going to fit, but we think the seat size is not a problem for most children up to at least the age of 2. There are four casters that allow the chair to move easily but be careful because they are plastic, and they will scratch some wood floors. The Zen Chair folds for storage easily by pressing two buttons so that the back legs fold in close to the chair. Retailing at $199, with its 3 position recline, dishwasher safe tray insert, and five-point harness, the Zen High Chair is a beautiful option for a feeding seat for your child. For all those moms that love the conveniences of the Fisher Price line of high chairs but want something that might be more upscale and blend in more with their kitchens, the Zen High Chair could be the high chair for you.
