Best: Crystal Clear Sound, Rechargeable Battery, Battery Option on Nursery Unit Worst: Rechargeable Battery Life Full Review: see below   Lowest Price:  $21.00   (from 7 sellers) Full Review: Unlike analog baby monitors that operate on a frequency similar to a radio, the Graco iMonitor uses Digital Spread Spectrum (DSS) technology to scramble the signal as it travels between monitor and receiver. What this means to us moms: crystal clear reception without interference or static. The DSS technology pretty much eliminates accidentally hearing your neighbors or annoying static, making the sound fantastic on this model. The iMonitor comes with one nursery monitor and one parent handset receiver. The parent handset is compact and one of the smallest on the market; it even has a belt clip for easy carrying. It has LED lights to visually show if there is sound and a low battery light as well. Best of all, it runs on an included rechargeable battery system so rather than paying for a hundred Duracells, you can just plug it in with an AC adapter to recharge it. The downside is the battery life is very, very short. Completely charged, our parent handset lasted only 4 ½ hours. You can still plug it in, but you do have to budget your battery juice judiciously to avoid being caught between a rock (dead handset) and a hard place (the need to use it nowhere near an outlet). The nursery unit is also compact and like most, plugs in with an AC adapter, but can also run on regular batteries (the Duracell kind), an unusual feature for baby monitors that we love since, babies don’t always fall asleep right next to an outlet. There are two channels to choose from (A & B) to obtain the clearest signal possible and it is a great signal – the best we’ve ever tested. But while Graco advertises that the iMonitor has a range of up to 2000 ft, we have to strongly disagree. We got a great range of up to 1000 feet – far better than most monitors – but nowhere near what Graco promises. The only thing really missing on the monitor is a vibrating feature on the parent unit to alert you of baby sounds when you’re in a noisy place. Otherwise, this is one of the bset monitors we’ve ever used. While the short battery life is a drawback, it’s one we’re happy to live with in exchange for the compact, convenient system with crystal clear reception.
