| Full Review: On first glance, the Superstar seems just a tad larger than a standard messenger bag. We were surprised, since it's Lexie Barnes' largest offering and billed as a great travel bag. And then we opened it. Voila!
The Superstar is a couple inches longer than most courier-sized bags, but it has amazing depth. Literally. And width. The Superstar is 7 inches wide at the bottom -- compared to 4 inches for most messenger bags. That means you get double the packing space in the same neat, flat, messenger bag style.
And pack it we did. We were able to load it up with everything a new mom would ever need, and more. The Superstar has more pockets than we knew what to do with, even a great hidden pocket on the outside top for easy access to keys, your phone, or to hide the baby Tylenol.
It features 2 mesh side bottle pockets, big enough for the widest mouth bottles. We really like the mesh bottle pockets on Lexie Barnes bags because they don't add any unnecessary bulk, you can easily see what you're packing, and the elastic top hugs any size bottle.
The Superstar is covered in Lexie Barnes' wonderful weatherproof, easy to clean fabric. We love-love-love their funky but pretty patterns. And the shoulder strap is not only well-padded, but includes a non-slip section -- a fabulous defense against shoulder slippage!
Our favorite feature of the Superstar -- besides its great patterns, amazing space and thoughtful design -- is the magnetic flap closure. We love the look and security of a messenger bag with a flap, but hate clipping and unclipping clasps, especially tight ones. Other bags we've tested also have magnetic closures, but via small, round targets. The Lexie Barnes Superstar has a giant, very strong magnetic pad sewn in. A simple toss of the top flap anywhere near the side of the bag, and it jumps closed. And surprisingly, stays closed. We stuffed it and then purposefully turned it upside down. Didn't open. It took four very rough, deliberate shakes before the closures finally gave way against the weight. A 5-star rating in our book!
Our only complaint is that the changing pad is regular sized. We wanted a super-sized one in this super-sized bag.
