Full Review: We thought we needed all the bells and whistles on a high chair. We thought all high chairs were all big, colorful and cartoony, standing out like a sore thumb in our otherwise trendy kitchens. We thought we just had to make space for the oversized chair for such a small occupant. Until we saw the Stokke Tripp Trapp.

Stokke is an innovative company that designs baby products to grow with your child. The Tripp Trapp, designed in 1972, is not only made out of beautiful, environmentally-friendly wood, but designed to be stylish and last a lifetime. This high chair can be used starting at 6 months (when the child can sit up unassisted) up through adulthood. With easy adjustments, this chair grows with your child, making it a staple in your kitchen decades longer than a traditional baby high chair. Because we don't like to put baby in the corner, we like that it allows her to join the family at the dinner table from her first day of solid foods.

Since toddlers usually reach an age that they want to join the family at the table in their own big girl chair or they just hate being confined to the 'baby chair', we found our toddlers constantly sitting on their knees just so they could reach the table. We also found when they would sit in the dining room chair, they still either had to sit on the edge to allow their knees to bend, allowing them no back support or sit with their back against the chair with their legs straight in a very awkward position. For these reasons, we think having a small child in a regular dining chair is bad for their posture, and we love that the Tripp Trapp fixes these concerns. Including a footrest for the child, it not only allows them to get into the chair on their own, but allows them to more easily move around and interact around the table. The Tripp Trapp is easy to adjust the height and depth of the seat and footrest as they grow to support natural posture and child development. There is even a guide in the instruction manual to help determine which setting is best for your child.

We have to admit that even with babies and children, we hate to have our entire house 'babyfied'. Having a big, plastic, cartoony high chair in our otherwise modern kitchens, drove us crazy. The Tripp Trapp allows us to at least reclaim one room in our house and we love-love-love the fact that the chair blends in with our dining set.

The Tripp Trapp is made out of cultivated beechwood and is available in 10 different colors. It has a small footprint, no bigger than a normal dining room chair, but because of the design of the base of the chair it is almost impossible to tip over. Even our two-year old testers couldn't knock it over when they kicked back against the dining room table. It is very easy to assemble and is extremely sturdy.

There is an optional baby rail available that is a must have if using the Tripp Trapp for a baby. Even with the five-point harness, the baby rail allows a small baby to be even more secure. There are also a variety of cushions sold separately to give the child a little extra padding.

We would like to mention that this chair does not come with a tray. To keep the baby at the table and bonding with the family, Stokke decided a tray was not needed. We have to be honest, that there are days that we wish they had included one to keep the messes in one area, but we get by just as well without it.

Of course, since you are getting a well made, chair that is going to last you from baby through adulthood, you are going to pay more than a standard baby high chair. Retailing at $199, we think it is worth every penny to keep our kitchens nice, our babies at the table with us, our toddlers posture better, for a chair that we don't have to banish to the basement after 1 year of use like we did our old, plasticy high chairs.
