My son with lay under the gym and kick his feet over and over to get the music and lights to begin. He loves it! He actually talks to the fish, which I think is so cute. This gym really encourages him to kick his feet and reach for the toys. It seems like it is really helping him developmentally. It's also easy to travel with since we take it everywhere with us since he loves it so much. I wish the mat/pad was more padded but I lay a folded blanket down first to give my daughter more comfort. The lights and the music are great. She loves to grab at the toys. My daughter is small so sometimes it's hard for her to activate the music and lights with her motion. Overall, it's a nice gym though. We look forward to my daughter using it when she can sit up as well. Don't buy it intending to do tummy time because that's not what it's for. For an activity mat, it's okay. My daughter seems to like it. I kind of wish that I had chosen a mat that she could lay on her back on and do tummy time, but this is okay too. This gym actually has lights and sound that keep my daughter occupied for 20 minutes or so at a time. One nice thing about this mat is that the arch can be tilted forward for a baby that can sit up unassisted to play with. We haven't gotten that far, but that's nice that we'll be able to use it longer than your typical mat.
