I waited until my son was old enough and played them for him anyway, and he liked them fine, but they never seemed very educational to me. Then we discovered Little Laureate. He loves them, I love them, even Dad loves them. They are the best tapes on the market by far. If you even remotely like using baby tapes, then you should definitely get this one! It's been their favorite since they first watched it at 6 months old. Now that they're 2, they ask for the Star video at least once a day. LOVE LITTLE LAUREATE!!! by GinBlossom from Phoenix, AZ Mom Rating: Best: Life kid segments, cute host, great animation Worst: Wish it was longer Full Review: I'm a Montessori teacher and I'm not only not impressed with the other baby videos on the market, I think most of them are actually really harmful. Baby Einstein is ok, but there are parts that are scary, I don't agree with their use of startling noises to hypnotize my baby (and annoy me!) like tires screeching, and how many angles of a toy can you *look* at? I was also not a fan of the close-ups of candles (are we trying to teach our babies to like fire?) and what in the world do office accesories have to do with education (answer: nothing!). Little Laureate is the shining exception in this field. You can tell that the producers actually consulted educational experts. The content is age-appropriate, not overstimulating, the world focus is wonderful (and long overdue!), the music is beautiful and the whole production is well-done. We first got this DVD when my oldest daughter was 2, and now that's she's 4, she's learned so much from it and really has a sense of ownership and familiarity with the art. She is forever spotting pieces from the program in the real world -- like Van Gogh's Starry Night -- and saying, "I know that! That's from my video!" It makes me so proud to have taught her about great art from such an early age! We also love the other DVD by this company, For the Love of World Travel. The Best Baby Series Ever! by MrsKathyCook from Jacksonville, FL Mom Rating: Best: Beautiful animation, great music Worst: None Full Review: We have all the baby videos on the market and the Little Laureate series is by far the best! It's made without toys or sock puppets and is really devoid of anything an adult might find grating or annoying. I know it sounds weird, but if I'm going to be subjected to a tape 500 times, I'd prefer it not have balloons popping or bad music. The Little Laureate tapes are soothing to my baby, the animation is wonderful. I can't recommend it more highly!
