The BOB Revolution Stroller: It doesn't get better than BOB
My love affair with BOB started 8 months ago. He arrived at my house one day and I have to admit, at first I didn't pay much attention to him. I thought he was nice looking but couldn't imagine that there was more to him then good looks. One day we spent some time together and after that I was smitten. BOB and I have been together ever since. I've "been around the block" so to speak with strollers. I bought 3 high end strollers that I returned because there were things about them I didn't like. I'm picky and have high standards so trust me when I say that you can't go wrong with BOB.
The BOB stroller Company originated in 1991 out of San Luis Obispo California and was started by two men, one was an airline mechanic and the other worked in the bicycle industry. They started as a company which made a bicycle trailer called the "YAK." After the success of this the company focused on developing a sport utility stroller and from there developed several other types of strollers. BOB is actually an acronym for "Beast of Burden."
The BOB Revolution is a strong, sturdy, workhorse of a stroller. This stroller is a jogging stroller but can also be used as your regular stroller because of its reasonable size, sturdiness, and easy fold. I see many women using this as their only stroller, although I use it as my second stroller for workouts and off- road strolling. The stroller is technically not supposed to be used for jogging or off- road strolling until your child is 6 months old. I actually put my son in it at about 3 months for light jogging on smooth pavement. Many of my friends also started using it like this when their children were 3 months as well. It worked great although the seat is big and a little infant would be too small for it before they are a few months old. However, the stroller comes with an infant car seat attachment. This option allows you to use the stroller from the very beginning with your infant car seat. It also has such a smooth and sturdy ride that it's great for a new baby, as long as you use it with the car seat.
The BOB Revolution is not just about function because it's also attractive, sporty, and comes in several different trendy and classic colors. It's available in light blue and brown, navy and grey, orange and brown, pink and brown, and black and grey. I own the orange and brown which I love for either boys or girls. The fabric is a durable outdoor type fabric that can easily be wiped down if it gets dirty and can handle rain or bad weather. The welded frame of the stroller is a silver color that looks modern and feels extremely sturdy. It is made from a high strength aluminum alloy.
Maneuverability on this stroller is amazing. It moves as if it's super lightweight and turns easily with just one hand. It can be used for bumpy roads, hiking, running, and just walking around the city. When I'm running with this stroller I barely have to push it with my child in it. I can actually push it with one finger. You can feel how smooth the ride is and I always feel confident that my child is comfortable because of this. The stroller also has incredible suspension and has adjustable shock absorbers for small or big kids
The 12" air filled tires are similar to bicycle tires, only smaller. There are two in the back and one in the front. The front wheel has the ability to swivel or lock straight. The tires can be removed easily and put back on just as quickly. All you have to do is lift up a leaver and the tire pops on and off. This makes it more compact for traveling and folding the stroller. If you have a small trunk you will appreciate this feature.
This stroller only weighs 23.6 lbs which is excellent considering that when it's open and in use you would think it weighed more because it's so sturdy. I can easily lift up this stroller and put it in the trunk of my small car. It is amazingly flat when folded due to the flexibility of the soft fabric. However, if you have a small car the width of the tires will take up much of your trunk. It you take the tires off it will give you more room. Since the tires are so easy to remove this is not a problem, although it would be an extra step. I really would only consider doing this if I needed extra trunk space and again only an issue if you have a small trunk.
Folding the stroller is really easy to do. You use two hands to fold the top part down by pushing a lever on either side. Then you use one hand to pull on a rubber handle and the stroller folds down flat.
The stroller has a large seat that can accommodate a child up to 70 lbs. Therefore it will last you a long time and gives you the ability to take an older child jogging or off-road strolling. The seat has a padded back and has good recline options. It can be reclined almost flat or it can be placed in a more upright position. It is easy to recline the seat as well. The seat has a five point padded adjustable safety harness that works for a small child and for a big child as well. If you are putting a child in the seat who is under one year you will want to make sure that you tie up the extra part of the harness which hangs out and in my opinion can be a choking hazard. As long as you tie the straps up, tuck them away, and check it from time to time, it's safe. I do wish they made the harness so that this was not an issue for us.
The stroller has a strap that you can attach to your wrist in case you are going down hill to prevent you from losing control of the stroller. I have only used this once or twice. When not in use you do have to make sure the strap is properly put away or tied up so that it does not fly out when you're running which could be a hazard. The strap can also be easily removed if you don't want to use it.
The stroller has a huge canopy that fully shades your child and has a great large peek a boo window that you can keep open or closed. The back of the stroller has a handy pocket to put baby's essentials in. There are also two small pockets in the seat area of the stroller where I like to keep toys. These would also work for sippy cups. The Bob Revolution has a great size basket that will fit a medium diaper bag or several items such as a blanket, toys, purse, etc… The basket is easy to access with your child in or out of the stroller. It does not come with a cup holder but the company sells a nice one that is made out of fabric so it folds with the stroller and will hold two water bottles. It also has a pocket for keys or a cell phone. I wish that this accessory came standard with the stroller but it retails for about $20. Other accessories such as weather shields and travel bags are made for the stroller but must be purchased separately.
A heavy diaper bag can be hung on the handle bar if you are walking, but you must be careful that you don't put too much force on the bar at the same time. The weight of the stroller is mainly in the back due to the wheels and it can tip back if you're not careful. If you are running you will keep your diaper bag in the basket or just take a few items you need. When I walk with this stroller I always hang my diaper bag on the back, but once when I took my child out of the stroller the weight of the bag made the stroller tip back on the ground.
The handle bar on the stroller is nicely padded and comfortable to hold. It does not have height adjustability but seems to be made with enough room for a long stride. If you are very tall you may want to try it out first. The one touch break is easy to use. Just hit the bar down with your foot and lift up with your foot to release.
If this is your only stroller, keep in mind that due to the width of the wheels you may find that it is difficulty to use in tight spaces such as a small store. Additionally, you can't easily bring it on a bus or fold it fast to hop in a cab. However, for daily trips to the market or going to your local Starbucks, it works great and I have no trouble getting in and out of a regular sized door way.
The BOB Revolution stroller retails for about $389. I do feel that this is worth the price as it is well made, has great maneuverability, folds easily and compactly, can be used from birth to 70 lbs, and looks great too.
Well, you could say that BOB and I are in a committed relationship now, but alas, in a few years we'll have to part ways. You see these types of relationships don't last forever. At some point we will both move on and have only the memories. I'll probably run into him on the street one day in the future and smile, thinking those were some of the best years.
