Lascal M1 - Fashion, function, and comfort come together! I love owning baby gear that hasn't become mainstream yet. I'm not sure why, but I've never seen anyone using the Lascal M1 Carrier. When I saw this baby carrier in the store I loved how sporty and high tech it looked. I was pleasantly surprised how this eye-catching carrier has many useful features that set it apart from the well known Baby Bjorn.

The Swedish designed carrier is made of a black ventilated fabric that is soft and breathable. The best way to describe the feel of the fabric is like a light mesh jersey fabric that you see with workout clothing. If you look closely at the fabric, it has little tiny holes in it for ventilation. There is a thin fabric behind the holes so the air is not directly touching baby's skin. The part of the carrier that touches your baby's skin is made from a bamboo fabric which is soft, padded, comfortable, and naturally antibacterial. I've noticed that my baby loves to chew on the bamboo fabric part of the carrier.

The carrier can be used for children 8-30 pounds. It has leg straps for babies 8 to 11 pounds. It's similar to the Baby Bjorn Active Carrier. However, the Lascal M1 clips together slightly differently at the sides and waist.

The carrier is easy to use. To put baby's who are 12 pounds or more in the carrier, you put the carrier on, slide baby in, and clip the side closed. For babies 8 to 11 pounds the instructions say to put the baby in the carrier first and then put it on. The carrier has two closures at the top, two on the sides, and two at the bottom by your waist. For safety purposes you need to tilt the waist connecter clip down in order to unclip it. This can take some getting used to at first. It can be stressful with a crying baby, but a safety feature is good. Although I love this carrier, after using this and the Baby Bjorn, I found the Bjorn slightly easier to clip and unclip when wearing it.

Once the carrier is on it is easy to adjust to fit you and baby comfortably. Just pull on the hanging straps and it becomes snug. I recommend keeping the carrier a little bigger the first time you put it on because once you have it snug, you have to take it off in order to loosen it. Once off, it's very easy to make larger again.

A nice feature about this carrier is its ability to adjust to fit baby in many different areas of the carrier. The carrier has adjustable width, length, and head support. This means you can tailor it to fit your baby as he or she grows. I am still trying to figure out how to adjust the length. It looks very easy in the picture and instructions but I have had some difficulty with this feature.

The carrier has nice padding around the leg and arm opening's for babies comfort. It seems to have more padding in these areas then other popular carriers. The carrier is designed with special baby back support as well. You can feel the back support when you touch it and without the baby in the carrier it keeps its shape. My baby always feels safe and secure once he's in the carrier.

Two of the best features of the Lascal M1 are the baby head cover and outside pocket. The head cover is a piece of bamboo fabric that is held on by four snaps. It can be taken off and on for cleaning. When baby is in the carrier you simply undo two snaps and pull the cover over your babies head. It stays in place on its own and this will protect your baby from wind, rain, and bad weather in general. Love that feature! The carrier also has a handy pocket located on the back of the carrier that zips open to hold keys, money, or a very thin cell phone. Because it's in the back, it takes some Houdini action to get your stuff in and out, but it's definitely better then not having a pocket at all.

This carrier is very comfortable for mom. I've tried several carriers including the Baby Bjorn and the Ergo Baby. So far this carrier has been the most comfortable. It distributes the weight well and relieves stress on my back and shoulders. Also if you've had a C Section and you're a little sore, the Lascal M1 fits higher on your body so it will not hit that area. The instructions say to wear the carrier as high up as possible so you can easily kiss your babies head.

My baby is 4 months old and can hold his head up so I tried to put him in this carrier facing forward. However, he was still too small and his head did not come up high enough over the top. Just know that you will probably not put your baby forward until 5 or 6 months, like it says in the instructions.

The Lascal M1 carrier has a very sporty and modern look to it, and I think it's one of the coolest looking carriers out there. The body of the carrier is in a basic black but there are several accent colors to choose from. The color is on the baby head covering and the arm and leg openings. This is just enough color and works for men or women.

The carrier comes in the following colors: Morning Blue, Island Green, Sterling Grey, Sunset Red, and Tropical Orange. On the front of the carrier it says "M1". It also has the name "Lascal" written in small letters. It retails for $130.

Overall, this is a great carrier with many functional features and a great look to it. There are a few things I would change to improve it such as moving the pocket to the front. Fashion, function, and comfort don't come together often though, so when it does it's a good thing!
