Munchkin Launches Project Pink To Support Breast Cancer Awareness

NORTH HILLS, Calif., (June 19, 2006) - Munchkin® - maker of infant and toddler products that make life easier for moms and dads - announces the launch of Project Pink, a multifaceted campaign to support moms in their fight against breast cancer. In addition to fund-raising opportunities through sales of a pink duck, the program encompasses help for the countless moms battling this disease while staying true to the company's mantra that "It's the Little Things" that often make the biggest difference.
"One out of every eight women faces the risk of breast cancer in her lifetime, and I know from personal experience that the disease can strike even young mothers with no family history of breast cancer, as it did my wife last year," said Doug Gillespie, Vice President of Marketing at Munchkin, Inc. "Munchkin is determined to do what we can to offer a helpful resource to the amazing moms who continue to nurture their families while they battle this disease."
When breast cancer is detected early, patients have more treatment options and a greater chance of survival. In order to help spread the word to family and friends, Munchkin developed a limited edition pink bath duck, featuring a "Don't Duck a Breast Exam" reminder. Pink ducks will be sold online and at major retailers, with proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.* In addition, pink ducks sold online can be dedicated to someone who has been touched by breast cancer or sent to a friend or loved one as a reminder to get a breast exam.
Munchkin will also launch a mini-site at www.munchkin.com that will give all consumers an opportunity to share tips, stories and memories that might be helpful to mothers raising young children while battling breast cancer. While on the mini-site, consumers will have the opportunity to win a family vacation to Los Angeles to participate in the Komen Los Angeles County Race for the Cure® on Feb. 25, 2007, alongside the Munchkin team.
Gillespie's wife, Serena, mother of two children under four years of age, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 at the age of 31. Following chemotherapy, surgery and radiation treatment, she has joined the millions of survivors dedicated to helping others through their life-altering battle with breast cancer.
*Munchkin will donate to the Komen Foundation a minimum of $.20 or 100% of net proceeds (whichever is greater) for each pink duck sold, from June 1, 2006 through November 30, 2006, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $10,000.
