Protect Your Baby From the Sun… in Style!
Protect Your Baby From the Sun… in Style!
I think it's fair to call the Groundhog a liar this year. A big fat liar. But finally, Spring is making an appearance around the country and people are coming out of hibernation.

Even though the sunny days are cool however, the sun's rays are still strong, and you should still protect your small children. While most of us don't start slathering our kids with the SPF until they open the pool, the milder weather actually means most of us are in direct sunlight more hours than we would be on sweltering days. Prolonged exposure, like on those wonderful, rambling walks, is bad-bad-bad for little ones, especially babies.

The quickest, least-messy alternative to sun creams, hats and long pants - all of which our toddlers hate - it to provide shade. As you've no doubt discovered, most strollers' built-on sun canopies provide about an inch of it. And as we've discovered, not all accessory stroller sunshade attachments are the same.

We grabbed a cheap one on our way to Florida last year and ended up so aggravated by its awfulness, we simply threw it away. Our stroller canopy was too thick for the clips to attach properly, the plastic frame in the add-on sunshade actually broke, and the whole thing was too big and too rigid to be folded up with the stroller.

We thought all stroller shades would present more of the same, until we found Australian company Protect-a-Bub. Their wonderful sunshade products not only offer an amazing amount of shade, but also cross ventilation and maximum viewing for tiny riders. They are light, flexible, easily tie on to every stroller we tested, and even come with their own little carrying bag.

And, best of all, their new line adds a little bling to the boring black shade with the addition of sparkling sequin embellishments - pink hearts for girls and blue stars for boys. Call us girly girls, but we love them.

Protect-a-Bub sunshades are twice as expensive as cheap alternatives you'll find at Babies R Us, but we think they are well worth it. A half price sunshade that ended up in Mickey Mouse's garbage can is a complete waste of money. We hate to throw down $40 for a stroller attachment as much as you, but the long-term investment is well worth our kids' sun safety, especially when they are so new and vulnerable.

Yes, we know our moms never covered us or bought any fancy stroller attachments… and we have the yearly mole biopsies to prove it.
