The attacher keeps the pacifier close and prevents it from dropping on the ground. If you've ever dropped a wet binky on the bathroom floor, you will appreciate the genius of the pacifier attacher. That said, you should check any product your infant uses for safety, especially since the government doesn't regulate products like this in any way. A few rules of thumb: Babies should not be around any length of string, ribbon or thin material more than 6 inches long because of the strangulation hazard. Check the clip for a pinching hazard. Big, plastic clips are best. Avoid the small, tight, metal clips that can cause great injury to delicate baby fingers. Avoid decorative, designer attachers that are strung with small beads. Babies will yank on their pacifier attacher all day long, and when the string breaks, you don't want baby showered with tiny choking hazards. Avoid handmade or no-name clips.
