Tike Tech City X3 Twin

Tike Tech is a stroller company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets baby gear products with an emphasis on the outdoors. Tike Tech's mission is to offer a variety of different strollers to meet the needs of today's active parent and family. Their design team works with one focus in mind: your baby. This is what they call BSD (Baby Specific Design).

The CityX3 Twin is Tike Tech's side by side, all-terrain double stroller featuring large air-filled tires, a lockable front swivel wheel, 2 roomy seats, 2 independent and very large canopies. This double stroller can accommodate your babies from birth through preschool years.
Tike Tech City X3 Twin Video Review
Tike Tech City X3 TwinThe seats on the CityX3 twin are great and loaded with features! Each seat is large, comfortable and complete with a padded 5-point harness. We love that harnesses have a one touch release buckle and an adjustable chest clip. The chest clip is great for preventing our little toddlers from freeing their arms from the harness and escaping the seat. Each seat is roomy and with a high seat back of 21.5 inches and a tall canopy clearance of 25 inches, even our taller 4 year old testers fit with no problem.

Each seat features its own independent recline that works with a strap system that allows you to place the seat in any position. When you recline the seat, you will find a small peek-a-boo window that allows you to keep any eye on your little sleeper. The strap system reclines with one hand (though you'll need two hands to put the seat back up) and isn't very hard to do but we would like to see a one-handed bar recline to make it easier. The recline is what they call a "low ride recline" which means that it isn't quite flat so Tike Tech recommends the seats for 6 weeks and up. Don't worry though because you can use the car seat adapter accessory for use with a newborn.

The CityX3 Twin sports a high handle bar that is great for taller and shorter parents. The handlebar does not adjust though. There are two very large sun canopies each with a large peek-a-boo window (with cover) that will definitely shade your child. There is a large basket underneath the seat that will hold a very large diaper bag, shopping bags or many other baby essentials. There is other storage on the stroller in the form of 2 small mesh pockets on the inside of each seat and a very large pocket on back of each seat.

The stroller has a removable baby bumper bar but doesn't come with a baby tray, parent tray or cup holders. There are those mesh pockets on the inside of the seats that our testers could fit a small sippy cup though. We would at least like to see a cup holder added to the stroller as standard but there is a great twin stroller handlebar water bottle holder that is sold separately. It easily attaches to the handlebar and includes two water bottle holders and a zippered pocket that is perfect for a cell phone, keys or a wallet.

The Tike Tech City X3 Twin sports two large, air-filled, 12-inch rear tires in back with IFD Shox (independent frame damping) that dampens unwanted vibrations at wheel impact providing a very smooth ride for your little passengers. There is also a rear footbrake that locks both wheels at the same time. In front, there is one 12-inch air-filled, lockable front wheel that swivels 360 degrees that provide great maneuverability. The front wheel also features an adjustable tracking system that assists your stroller to track straight. Unless it's loaded to near the 100 lb weight capacity, we were able to zip this stroller around with one hand. It took a bit more wrist power with two larger kids aboard. While Tike Tech doesn't recommend jogging with the CX3 Twin (they recommend looking at the CX3 Twin Sport for jogging), we found with the sturdy frame, lockable front wheel, and the air-filled tires, we had no problem taking it for a light jog.

Folding the City X3 Twin is very quick and easy to do. Just unlock the safety lock on the side of the stroller, lift up on the two levers on the sides of the handlebar and push the handle downwards as the stroller folds in half. It's a bulky half - but "in half" nonetheless. To lock the stroller closed, there is a large Velcro strap that is included to secure the frame together. An automatic lock would be nicer but we are glad they included something to lock it closed. Unfolding the stroller is no problem either. All you have to do is take off the Velcro strap that you used to lock it, lift up on the handlebar as you step on the back bar of the stroller until it locks open. Remember to relock the safety latch on the side of the stroller once open.

Weighing in at 28.5 lbs. (22.5 lbs without the wheels), it does take a bit of muscle to lift the weight into our trunk. But this weight is very reasonable for a full-size, all-terrain double stroller. With other brands, we have come to expect over 30 lbs at the minimum - so 28.5 lbs isn't bad at all! Plus, to make it a more compact package, the rear wheels pop right off with the push of a button and the front wheel is removable in seconds.

Since the seats don't recline flat, Tike Tech offers a car seat adapter (sold separately) that you may want to consider in order for use with a newborn. The adapter will allow you to make the City X3 Twin a travel system and use the stroller from the moment you bring your new bundle of joy home. The adapter will only work with one infant car seat though so it will not make this a double travel system. The adapter accepts the Evenflo Embrace, Graco Snugride, Graco 32, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, Britax Companion and Maxi Cosi. *Note: We could not get the Maxi Cosi Mico to fit in the stroller with the adapter.

The CityX3 Twin is available in four colors: red, blue, orange and black. With its many great features such as large, air-filled tires, large basket, gigantic canopies, large roomy seats and amazing maneuverability, we recommend that you check out the Tike Tech CityX3 Twin Stroller!
