Tike Tech City X4

Tike Tech is a stroller company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets baby gear products with an emphasis on the outdoors. Tike Tech's mission is to offer a variety of different strollers to meet the needs of today's active parent and family. Their design team works with one focus in mind: your baby. This is what they call BSD (Baby Specific Design).

The CityX4 is Tike Tech's new 4 wheeler designed for strolling indoors and out. Stocked with features such as an adjustable handle, large roomy seat and great canopy, this lighter weight stroller can accommodate your baby from birth through preschool years at a mid-range price.
Tike Tech City X4 Video Review
Tike Tech City X4The seat on the CityX4 is great and loaded with features! It is large, comfortable and complete with a padded 5-point harness. We love that harness has a one touch release buckle and an adjustable chest clip. The chest clip is great for preventing our little toddlers from freeing their arms from the harness and escaping the seat. The seat is roomy and with a high seat back of 21.5 inches and a tall canopy clearance of 25 inches, even our taller 4 year old testers fit with no problem.

The seat reclines with a strap system that allows you to place the seat in any position. When you recline the seat, you will find a small peek-a-boo window that allows you to keep any eye on your little sleeper. The strap system reclines with one hand (though you'll need two hands to put the seat back up) and isn't very hard to do but we would like to see a one-handed bar recline to make it easier. The recline is what they call a "low ride recline" which means that it isn't quite flat so Tike Tech recommends the seat for 6 weeks and up.

The CityX4 sports an adjustable handle bar (up and down but not telescoping) that is great for taller and shorter parents. Since we are not all the same heights, we love this feature! It's easy to operate with two push buttons on the sides and can be set at any position including all the way up for taller parents and all the way down so that other siblings can "help" push the stroller.

It has a very large sun canopy with large peek-a-boo window (with cover) that will definitely shade your child. There is a large basket underneath the seat that will hold a large diaper bag, shopping bags or other baby essentials. There is other storage on the stroller in the form of 2 small mesh pockets on the inside of the seat and a very large pocket on back of seat.

The CityX4 has a removable baby bumper bar but doesn't come with a baby tray, parent tray or cup holders. We would at least like to see a cup holder added to the stroller as standard but there is a great handlebar water bottle holder that is sold separately. It easily attaches to the handlebar and includes two water bottle holders and a zippered pocket that is perfect for a cell phone, keys or a wallet.

The Tike Tech City X4 sports two large, rubber coated, 12-inch rear tires with IFD Shox (independent frame damping) that dampens unwanted vibrations at wheel impact providing a very smooth ride for baby. There is also a rear footbrake that locks both wheels at the same time. In front, there are two 6-inch rubber coated swivel wheels that provide great maneuverability. Unless it's loaded to near the 60 lb weight capacity, we were able to zip this stroller around with one hand. This stroller is by no means meant to be an all-terrain stroller, so it performs best on smooth payment (especially since the front wheels do not lock straight).

Folding the City X4 is very quick and easy to do. Just unlock the safety lock on the side of the stroller, lift up on the two levers on the sides of the handlebar and push the handle downwards as the stroller folds in half. To lock the stroller closed, there is a large Velcro strap that is included to secure the frame together. An automatic lock would be nicer but we are glad they included something to lock it closed. Unfolding the stroller is no problem either. All you have to do is take off the Velcro strap that you used to lock it, lift up on the handlebar as you step on the back bar of the stroller until it locks open. Remember to relock the safety latch on the side of the stroller once open. Weighing in at a light 21.5 lbs. (16.5 lbs without the wheels), we had no problem lifting the weight into our trunk.

Since the seat doesn't recline flat, there are two great accessories that you may want to consider to use the stroller with a newborn. Tike Tech offers a car seat adapter that is sold separately that installs in seconds. The adapter will allow you to make the City X4 a travel system and use the stroller from the moment you bring your new bundle of joy home. The adapter accepts the Evenflo Embrace, Graco Snugride, Graco 32, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio, Britax Companion and Maxi Cosi. *Note: We could not get the Maxi Cosi Mico to fit in the stroller with the adapter.

There is also a fabulous bassinet sold separately that will turn the stroller into a pram or a "stroller bed on the go". It features a multi positional canopy with peek-a-boo window and a removable mattress with liner. We would like to see a cover added on the canopy window to block the sun from shining in on our little riders. The bassinet is suitable for infants up to 20 lbs and easily attaches to the frame of the stroller. Our one complaint about the bassinet option is that you have to completely remove the stroller seat to use it. The stroller seat takes a bit of time to remove because it requires many snaps and Velcro to be undone.

The CityX3 is available in four colors: red, blue, orange and black. With its many great features such as an adjustable handlebar, large basket, gigantic canopy, and a large roomy seat, we recommend that you check out the Tike Tech CityX3.
