Hello, my name is Hollie and I am a recovering humidifier addict. Now, don’t get me wrong, a humidifier is a fabulous product that is needed many times! It is a must-have for any new parent. (Needs to be on your baby registry type of must-have!) You will depend on a humidifier (cool mist only!) when your child is sick.
The reason I am a “recovering humidifier addict” is that we used ours all the time with my kids. Every. Single. Night. 365 days a year. No matter the season, the weather or if the child had a cold, the humidifier ran all night long every night AND during every nap time.
It was the noise that we couldn’t get enough of. We used it as a white noise machine to drown out the older kids and any other household noise. The louder the humidifier, the more we loved it. I’d walk by those “quiet” humidifiers in the store and scoff, “who would possibly want those!”
I wanted that noise.
I needed that noise. (Like a crack addict!)
Not for me but for my child!
You do what you have to do to get babies and keep babies asleep, right?!? We did everything we needed to do to keep the humidifier running. Cleaned it. Replaced filters. Tossed ’em out and bought new machines. All this work just for the noise! And when we visited grandma’s house, we had a humidifier waiting for us. Like a crack addict, I tell you!!
About 6 months ago, after debating how I could get a humidifier on a cruise with us, I knew I needed help. My humidifier addiction was out of control and my son is THREE!! But, yes, now he is an addict to the sound too! That is when we started researching sound machines. There were so many to choose from and so many had their “problems”. Too quiet. Crap music/sound. Not enough sound selections. Not travel friendly. Didn’t take batteries. The list goes on.
Finally, I settled on the Graco Sweet Slumber Sound Machine because it had everything we were looking for. Features such as: volume control, battery AND AC capability, music and nature sounds, compact size (for traveling) and the biggest thing that put us over the top was the MP3 port. Yes, we could plug our own MP3 player into it and use it as a speaker for our own music. Done. Done. And done.
We packed away the humidifier, only to be brought out during illness, and haven’t looked back. The Graco Sound Machine isn’t cheap at $30-$40 but has saved us a boatload of money in humidifier filters and humidifier replacements. Seriously, I’m saving money with our new sound machine! And you know what, my son LOVES it. Still sleeps like a baby! I like the sound machine so much that I just had to give you the up close and personal look at it in a Baby Gizmo VIDEO review below:
