MARCO ISLAND MARRIOTT VIDEO REVIEW

Marriot Marco Island entrance

This resort is pure luxury. The rooms are immaculate, the grounds are beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff is amazing.

Marco Island Marriot

We stayed at this beachfront resort and spa for 2 nights to explore everything it has to offer families. Unfortunately, tropical storm Debby (from here on out it will be referred to as just “Debby”) was staying during our visit as well. Darn you, Debby, next time you are not invited! While the weather was less than cooperative with the rain and 40 mph winds, we still managed to have a fabulous time.

ROOMS

The rooms have all been remodeled and they are the typical luxury that I expect from a large Marriott resort. The standard hotels rooms are roomy enough for a family of 4 complete with the comfiest beds, chair, desk, vanity area and full bathroom. Since this is a beachside resort, every room has an ocean-view balcony

If you are looking for a larger room, you may want to consider upgrading to a suite.  Your choices are the Lainai Suites (bottom of the building with a patio), Terrace Suites (on the roof of the hotel with huge balcony/terrace) and the presidential suite.

Here is what the Terrace Suite looks like. Tons of room for a family!

FOOD

Tropiks
Prior to arriving at the resort, I had been told that the Marco Island Marriott had the best food. As in award-winning-kind-of-food! The breakfast buffet at Tropiks was one of those meals that everyone raved about. Not one to miss a fabulous breakfast buffet, we had to try it out. Let me tell you, people were right. It was delicious! Tons of breakfast selection that was hot and prepared right. If you aren’t the buffet type, a menu is offered as well. If you are hitting up the menu, I highly recommend the Crunchy French Toast. It is seriously A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!

Kurrents
The fine dining option at the resort, Kurrents features seafood and steaks and is a great option for a kid-free evening. (Good thing the resort offers babysitting services!)

Quinn’s
This casual restaurant is adjacent to the main pool and features sandwiches, burgers and tropical drinks. It has a fun atmosphere with a large bar, TVs for sports and tie-dyed high chairs for the kids.

Pazzi’s
If pizza is your thing, you’ll want to stop by Pazzi’s for the wood fired pizzas. A quaint little eatery between the two pools, this restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating.

POOLS

There are two pools to choose from on property. Quinn’s pool is a large pool in the center surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas (for rent!).

Marco Island Marriott pools

Tiki Pool is a second pool with a waterfall, wading pool, water slide and spray areas for the little ones was my kids’ favorite pool by far. The water slide was the biggest hit as my kids went down it over and over and over again.

There are three hot tubs on the property, one by the Tiki pool and two by the main pool. While we were looking forward to a relaxing dip in the hot tub, we were a little disappointed that they all were broken as a result of the storm. The hot tubs weren’t closed but were definitely not inviting. When it wasn’t raining, we stopped by the Tiki pool hot tub only to find it lukewarm and not worth getting into. We found out that “Debby” broke the motors and new parts had to be ordered. We blame this on the relentless storm and not on Marriott though.

PLAYGROUND

There is a playground on property right by the beach that is a bit run down with rust from the saltwater and missing bolts. We are glad to hear that it will probably be replaced soon since a beachside playground is a great addition to this resort. We suggest skipping this playset until then because this one just doesn’t look all that safe.

TIKI TRIBE DAY CAMP

The resort offers a day camp for kids ages 5-12 with scheduled activities between 10am and 3pm for an extra charge. This is a good option for parents who would like to take advantage of the resort’s spa, golf or other amenities while the kids are hanging with others their age and amazing staff.

My 5 and 7 year old joined the camp activities for one full day and they absolutely loved it! There is a camp room that is complete with video games, a huge ball in the wall game, two craft tables and a large climb-able play structure.

The camp experience consisted of swimming, dance contest, behind-the-house bakery tour with cookie decorating, movie, two crafts and pizza at Pazzi’s.

SPA

This award-winning spa is an experience in itself (we hear!). We didn’t have time to experience it ourselves, but they do offer massages, facials, hair-dos, and a variety of other spa treatments. This is a top notch spa that is worth the resort visit just for the spa. Yes, we hear it is THAT good! This is definitely on our list to do during our next visit!

STAFF

The staff at the Marco Island Marriott was amazing. Every single employee made eye contact with us as we passed and said hello. The front desk staff was friendly, quick and very accommodating no matter what our request was.

When we arrived at the resort at noon on Sunday, there was an island-wide power outage due to “Debby”. This meant that most of the hotel had no power and the few lights that were on were working on generator. Since this power outage had been going on for a few hours, the hotel had already had their ducks in a row by the time we arrived. It seemed like most of the staff was standing in the lobby to help guests with whatever they needed. They were also handing out glo sticks (which was a hit with my kids!) to help light the darker hallways.

Even though the outage was out of the resort’s control, I loved how they were handling it. The Tiki Tribe Kids Camp was free to all who wished to participate that day to give the kids something to do. They were even rolling out grills to cook up some hamburgers for guests since most of the restaurants were closed. Remember the entire island was out of power so even the restaurants around town were closed for the 6 hours of no electricity.

BEACH

Like I said, the resort is beachfront with 3 miles of beach property. It’s a beautiful white sand beach loaded with shells for the kids. While “Debby” had reeked havoc on this beautiful beach which caused all the beach activities, cabanas and chairs to be shut down during our visit, we could tell it was a beautiful beach when “Debby” wasn’t around.  Definitely a great beach for kids!! Unfortunately, during our visit we had huge white caps, unmanageable waves (for kids!) and flooding on the beach. Next time we are visiting without “Debby”.

Here is what the beach normally looks like:

Beautiful, right?!?

beach during a tropical storm

Just not as good but you can tell this is a fabulous beach!

Even with all the bad weather, we had a wonderful time at the Marco Island Marriott. Kids don’t care if it is raining when they are swimming, right? They figure they are wet already so it’s no big deal.

My husband even said that this is the type of resort that you could spend an entire week at. That is code for this is a fabulous resort in husband-speak! We had such a good time that we know we’ll be back to this property to visit again and hopefully have more opportunity to take advantage of the beach activities that Debby had shut down.

If you are looking for somewhere to take the kids in South Florida, you have to stay at the Marco Island Marriott! You will not be disappointed with everything it has to offer the entire family.

Great choice! And great review! I LOVE the Marco Marriot. Being born and raised in Naples, it was always a nice getaway. Hopefully next time you come and visit, it wont be during hurricane season ;)! And you can enjoy the Gulf for the length of your trip collecting starfish, sand dollars, and shells!
