You know the old saying, “There’s no use in crying over spilled milk?” Well, I’m pretty sure they weren’t talking about breastmilk. Any mother who has spent time at the pump knows how much dedication it takes to express breastmilk. That stuff is like liquid gold. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t like to waste a single drop of it.
I was so excited when I saw that Medela has re-designed their fabulous Pump and Save Breastmilk bags. The bags, famous for attaching right to the breastpump for easy breastmilk collection, now include an easy to connect adapter. This means that the new design attaches to the breastshields more easily, collects the breastmilk in a more efficient way, and cuts down the the potential risk for breastmilk spillage.
The old design included a self-stick strap that attached right to the breastshield. While I really liked that the bag did double duty collecting and storing the breastmilk, I didn’t really like the way the valve on the breastshield just “hung” into the bag. There were more than a few times that the breastmilk leaked out of the bag because I didn’t attach the adhesive straps properly. Now that is something worth crying over!
The new Medela Pump and Save Breastmilk Bags has a small plastic adapter that is compatible with all Medela breastpumps. The adapter connects right to the breastshield. It then hooks onto two small holes in the sides of the bags. The breastmilk is funneled directly into the bag. The design is so efficient that it leaves me wondering why Medela didn’t do this in the first place! This is a welcome change in my not-so-humble opinion. 🙂
A 20 count box of Medela Pump and Save Breastmilk Bags comes with two of the adapters. It’s great to have as extra adapter in case one gets lost or is in the wash. While inclusion of the adapter does mean there will be an extra part to wash, I don’t mind. The convenience of no longer needing to worry about spilled breastmilk is well-worth the extra work.
As with all of the Medela Pump and Save bags, the new design still includes a no-leak and easy to close zipper top, the no-spill stand-up bottom, and an easy to pour top. Plus, the plastic is BPA free and safe to use for storing breastmilk.
So, wipe up those tears moms. Thanks to the Medela Pump and Save Breastmilk Bags we won’t have to cry over spilled milk anymore!
